R Cubed Technologies is the first certified Omni hardware partner to distribute the Multiplied Linux Desktop solution. Customers in North America can now purchase computers pre-installed with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and Userful Linux Desktop MultiplierTM software.

EDMONTON, Canada—5 December 2006—Omni Technology Solutions Inc. and Illinois-based R Cubed Technologies today announced they have signed an agreement to distribute Multiplied SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktops in North America. The PCs will come pre-loaded with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and the Linux Desktop Multiplier, powered by Userful. The Linux Desktop Multiplier allows up to ten users to be connected to a single desktop computer. This dramatically reduces the hardware, software, management and infrastructure costs involved in migrating computer labs, libraries and classrooms to Linux.

"The Multiplied SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop hardware and software bundle allows customers to drive even more value out of their fixed IT budgets," said Nathan Rockhold, president of R Cubed Technologies. "This exciting new bundle builds on our success in delivering pre-installed SLED on laptops and traditional single-user desktops."

“We are excited to work with partners like Omni and R Cubed Technologies,” said Roger Levy, Novell vice president and general manager of Open Platform Solutions. “Novell partners enhance our SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop initiatives by offering added choice and value to our global customers.”

"We are pleased to work with Omni and R Cubed to extend our Linux Desktop Multiplier technology into the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop platform," said Tim Griffin President and CEO of Userful Corporation. “This pre-configured hardware bundle will make it easy for solution providers and end customers to fully leverage the 10-to-1 desktop advantage on SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop."

Trevor Poapst, director of global marketing and channel strategy for Omni, said, "As the first North American white-box PC maker to pre-install SLED 10 from Novell, Omni was pleased to certify R Cubed Technologies' hardware bundle with the Linux Desktop Multiplier. This certified hardware bundle allows customers to deploy Multiplied Linux Desktops with confidence. Customers are saving 70-80% on their deployment costs when compared to traditional, stand-alone Windows desktops. In addition to the significant hardware savings, the Multiplied Linux Desktop strategy delivers compelling savings in terms of management, infrastructure and electricity costs."

R Cubed Technologies™ Signs Agreement to Pre-Install Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop

Posted On: Tue, 2006-10-24 21:50 by Nathan Rockhold

WALTHAM, Mass.—25 Oct 2006—Novell today announced it has signed agreements with four white-box PC manufacturers who will globally distribute PCs pre-loaded with SUSE® Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 from Novell®. European manufacturers ETegro Technologies, MAXDATA and Transtec along with R Cubed Technologies in the United States will sell notebooks and/or desktop computers with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 already installed, giving customers around the world simplified access to a complete desktop computing solution that dramatically reduces costs, improves end-user security and increases workforce productivity.

“We share a commitment with Novell to give our customers the right options to help them meet their business objectives,” said Nathan Rockhold, president of R Cubed Technologies. “Pre-loading SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 on our PCs and laptops is a natural move, as the market recognizes the advantages of Linux on the desktop and businesses decide to migrate to those advantages.”

These partnerships come on the heels of Novell's recent announcement with Lenovo regarding the industry's first Linux-based ThinkPad mobile workstations, which will run SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. Additional SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 agreements with major hardware vendors are currently in the works.

Roger Levy, Novell vice president and general manager of Open Platform Solutions, said, “Market demand for desktop operating system alternatives is really starting to take off, and these new partnerships will help meet that demand. White-box builders sell millions of PCs and are a crucial part of the growing spread of Linux on the desktop. We're very pleased with our new partners, and we're working with more than a dozen others to further expand the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and bring the benefits of desktop Linux to the widest possible market.”

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop delivers ease of use and several innovative new features including three-dimensional desktop graphics, integrated search and a fully compatible office productivity suite through the Novell edition of OpenOffice.org 2.0, all at a list price that's a small fraction of the leading proprietary operating system and office suite alternatives. SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop is suited for complete desktop replacements, retail point of service solutions, thin-client deployments and engineering workstations.

PCs pre-loaded with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 are now available directly from ETegro Technologies, MAXDATA, R Cubed Technologies and Transtec. For more information, visit http://www.etegro.com, http://www.maxdata.com, http://www.shoprcubed.com and http://www.transtec.co.uk.
